“Meeting New Business Challenges with Dyanmic Quality Assurance”
Speaker Mike Azocar, Sr. Developer Technical Specialist for Microsoft
Program Overview
We all know that Quality matters. It’s a top of mind issue for every business, but delivering quality software has always been a daunting task. Often times quality is cut short by project time overruns and multiple rework cycles between development and QA that seem to go on forever.
Team Foundation Server 2010 provides full traceability of test progress, from requirements through deployment with real-time quality metrics and collaboration. The net effect is the team is able to make informed, timely decisions, driving down the risks common to every software development project. Microsoft Test Professional 2010 leverages the power of TFS to make a real impact on software quality. It’s an integrated testing solution that delivers a complete plan-test-track workflow. It allows the user to quickly identify quality related bugs and easily report them with rich actionable information.
Key Learning Objectives
•Learn how to define, manage and execute your tests from one interface
•Learn how to quickly and completely capture bugs in such a way that developers can reproduce them
•Learn how to track testing progress on one simple dashboard, and drilling into critical details
Speaker BIO
Mike Azocar is a Sr. Developer Technical Specialist for Microsoft. Mike has been in the software industry for over 16 years. For the past 6 years Mike has been focused on Microsoft ALM technologies and Agile methodologies. Mike was a planner and author of the TFS 2005 certification exam. “Why Should We Go With Open Source Test (OST)?”
Frank Cohen, CEO of PushToTest
Organizations are challenged to rapidly build, test, and operate always-on services. Our teams are feeling the effort when schedules are short, budgets are tight, standards are few, and much of this is new! Find out why Ford, Wells Fargo Bank, Emma, Sprint, Tribal DDB, and PepsiCo succeed with open source test technology and methodology as a more affordable and flexible option to the proprietary test vendors. Frank Cohen, founder at PushToTest and inventor of the TestMaker open source test tool, will lead a fun and interesting discussion of why we should go with Open Source Testing (OST.)
About the Speaker:
Frank Cohen is the Founder of PushToTest, the open-source test automation solutions business, and maintainer of the popular TestMaker open-source project. Frank is the author of several books, including FastSOA, the way to use native XML technology to build scalable service oriented architecture, and Java Testing and Design. For the past 25 years he has developed and marketed some of the software industry’s most successful products, including Norton Utilities for the Macintosh, Stacker, and SoftWindows.

DFWQAA invites you to attend our monthly meeting
Tuesday, September 21, 2010 6:30pm.
Location: Technisource, 3011 Internet Blvd, Frisco, TX 75034
Presented by: Rick Barzen – Rick is the Software Quality Management Practice Director for Genilogix (see Rick’s bio below).
Content: For quality control professionals, the process of collecting quality information is cumbersome. Wherever the testing may be performed—on a factory floor, in a data center, or in the field—chances are that the information is entered by hand onto a form attached to a clipboard and then entered into an application for statistical analysis. Mobile applications that address this problem are often designed for older platforms—and they feed data into closed proprietary systems.
During this presentation participants will learn about a simple, paperless way for quality professionals to run tests and track defects using their Apple iPhones, iPads, and/or iPod Touch mobile devices.

This month’s guest speaker is Scot Robinson, Certified Ethical Hacker, Certified Expert Penetration Testing, and an EC-Council Certified Security Analyst.
“Virtualizing Your Test Lab”
Testing your application on multiple platforms, OS versions, and browser versions can be very expensive and time consuming when limited by only using physical hardware. Investing time constantly reimaging physical hardware to meet a specific configuration before running tests or debugging issues reduces overall team throughput and can contribute to missing project deadlines. Evaluating, selecting, and implementing a configuration virtualization process (using tools like VMware, Citrix, Sun’s VirtualBox, and soon Microsoft’s VirtualPC atop HyperV) can dramatically increase team throughput. In addition, new API SDKs for some toolsets are becoming available which will allow use of virtualized configurations in automated build verification tests.
This presentation’s goal is to guide the attendee through the return-on-investment calculation, toolset evaluation to meet your particular needs, and an overview of specific toolsets, some of their current and future expected capabilities, and API SDKs that can be used to increase your organization’s development and test efficiency.
Questions I would ask are…
Should I virtualize my test lab?
Which virtualization tool is best for me?
How do you roll out a full VMWare Lab Manager system?

We are floating in a sea of data we ignore…Defect data. If you are testing software, running peer reviews, or conducting audits you have a rich source of critical data, telling a powerful story. Capture these data and analyze them and demonstrate the value of your efforts. This webinar presents a repeatable case study showing millions in cost savings and avoidance. You can use it as a blueprint to find and eliminate millions in waste. Learn the simple steps of analysis you can do without leaving your desk. Produce powerful reports that get your manager’s attention. Turn defects into dollars and show the progress of all your quality efforts whether in testing, development, process improvement, or any other software-impacting endeavor. Walk away with the tools you need to show robust results.
About the speaker…
Rebecca Staton-Reinstein, Ph.D, president of Advantage Leadership, Inc. did her first defect study in 1989 as a QA Analyst and showed her management $1.2 million in software defects that could be eliminated with an investment of $40,000. In her most recent such study, she helped a company find over $10,000,000 in defect losses and has already demonstrated $6 million in cost savings and avoidance. She will share her simple approach with your so you can do the same. Want to know more?

Drawing on research from at least four respected authors, the presenter addresses important principles in interesting and memorable ways. Techniques used regularly by masters of influence will be seen in a new light as emphasis is shifting to process-driven issues. We will enjoy learning from real-life examples presented by a graduate of the Harvard Business School with experience-based qualifications from the school of hard knocks.
David will cover:
§ Leadership vs. Management and Words That Match Them
§ Practical Frameworks for influencing and Persuading Others
